MANKATO—Wealth Centers of America is taking a creative approach to community engagement and local giving by hosting a fun run/walk benefiting Greater Mankato Area United Way on September 25.

Community members are invited to register now for the Minnewaukon 5K Run or 2-Mile Walk on Saturday, September 25 at Minnewaukon Court in Mankato. Start time is 9 a.m., with check-in beginning at 8:30. The family-friendly event includes prize drawings and other fun activities, such as meeting the resident horses.

Register at MankatoUnitedWay.org/5K. Entry fee is a suggested donation of $20 for an individual or $50 for a family.

The 5K is the initiative of Wealth Centers of America President Scott Weilage, who is holding the event near his home on Minnewaukon Court.

“We held a country fun run last year as a casual get-together and had a great time,” said Weilage. “This year, we saw the opportunity to invite community members and also have an impact through Greater Mankato Area United Way.”

In-kind supporters include Nicollet Bike & Ski Shop, North Links Golf Course, Old National Bank and River Valley Running.

The 5K is an example of how local businesses get creative to raise funds for Greater Mankato Area United Way. Other recent events include trike races, ice bucket challenges and food fundraisers.

Greater Mankato Area United Way’s 2022 campaign goal is $2,060,000 to support 59 essential programs in Blue Earth, Le Sueur, Nicollet and Waseca counties.
