The Can Jam event will be held Wednesday, November 20th from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Donations of non-perishable food items will support the Echo Food Shelf. Those donating food items will receive raffle tickets which will be drawn throughout the evening for free prizes. Musical entertainment will be provided throughout the evening by the Department of Music’s contemporary combos.
No one should have to worry about whether they will have food on their plate. But the reality is that hunger and homelessness are widespread problems that affect far too many people. Hunger is complex and often misunderstood. In the United States hunger is neither caused by overall food shortages nor by the personal choices of hungry people. Hunger in America is about poverty and the social forces that create and sustain it. The U.S. is the wealthiest country in world history, and yet today there are millions of Americans living in poverty and hunger.
Your non-perishable food donation is an admirable way to support local hunger relief efforts. Those donating non-perishable food items will receive one raffle ticket per food item. Raffle drawings will take place throughout the night and raffle winners must be present to win. A Grand Prize drawing will be held at 10:00 pm.
The Can Jam event is free and open to the public and all ages are encouraged to attend. Attendees are urged, but not required, to donate food items in support of National Hunger Awareness week.
