Project Bike is Minnesota’s only woman led bicycle/art tour with visual artists and their studios setting the destinations. For the past five years creative leader Dana Sikkila has set out on a one of a kind art/bike tour, advocating for the important point that every artist has skills and creative ideas to help grow and sustain our communities. Over the years, with her bike, trailer, and film crew, Sikkila has biked over 3,000 miles connecting with Minnesota artists living in communities ranging from the rural to large cities, learning what motivates her fellow Minnesotans to create art. Project Bike’s mission is to showcase that art and artists are truly part of our chemistry as individuals, as communities, and as a state.
Throughout the way creator Dana Sikkila visited artists living in Grand Marais, Knife River, Duluth, Sturgeon Lake, St. Paul, Minneapolis, Red Wing, and St. Peter Minnesota to name a few. With just her Surly bike and riding partner Kyle Zeiszler they biked through the state living off their bikes, showcasing and advocating for what it means to live off your bike in Minnesota.
Project Bike is one of the most anticipated grassroots arts and culture projects in the state. This year’s tour was held July 16th – 26th starting the adventure in Grand Marais (northern Minnesota) with a 600 mile path biked back to Mankato.
