Mankato, MN – The Mankato Family YMCA Mentoring Programs recently received a $30,000.00 grant from the Otto Bremer Trust which will help provide mentoring opportunities for youth and families in the Mankato area.
The Mentoring Program at the YMCA includes the Brother/Sister Program and School-Based Mentoring. The goal is to build trusted relationships between the mentor and mentee, where confidence and hope becomes a reality.
“We are grateful for the grant from Otto Bremer Trust,” said Tom Schueneman, Director of Social Responsibility. “With these funds, we are able to continue this critical community work and provide opportunities for the youth we serve.”
The consequences of the pandemic and economic downturn will likely cause social, emotional and financial hardships for local families. It is anticipated that referrals to the Mentoring Program will increase as the needs of the youth in the community become greater.
The Mankato Family YMCA will always reach out in socially responsible ways while working diligently to bring together those who seek to achieve this common goal. At the core of this work is the fundamental truth that all young people need and deserve to have one caring and consistent adult that is encouraging them and helping them along in life’s journey. Mentoring impacts our schools, neighborhoods, workplace and community for the better. It has the possibility to change a young person’s life.
