    January 5th, 2023

MANKATO—Throughout January, customers at the Wow!Zone can round up their bill to help provide books to area children through United Way’s Books for Kids program.

The Wow!Zone is hosting Greater Mankato Area United Way’s “Round Up for Reading” initiative to benefit the United Way Books for Kids program, which provides nearly 30,000 books, donated by Capstone, to children throughout the region annually.

All month long, customers can round up their Wow!Zone bill to the nearest dollar or may choose to donate additional funds to assist in sending books to area children.

Greater Mankato Area United Way mails Capstone books to children ages 0 through 4 years old in Blue Earth, Le Sueur, Nicollet and Waseca counties six times a year. United Way also provides free books at various outreach events throughout the year.

United Way is seeking volunteers to help with the Wow!Zone Round Up in January as well as at book packaging throughout the year. Visit GetConnected.MankatoUnitedWay.org to register to help or contact United Way at 507-345-4551.

Greater Mankato Area United Way’s Books for Kids program has been providing free books to children throughout the region since 1997. Benefits of reading beginning in infancy include language and brain development, social and emotional skills, parent-child bonding, and much more. Parents should read with their child at least 20 minutes a day. Learn more at MankatoUnitedWay.org/books-kids.
