    MANKATO—Reading is dino-mite!

Children and families are invited to Greater Mankato Area United Way’s sixth annual Reading Festival from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 23 at the Mankato Family YMCA Blue Gym.

This year’s event has a dinosaur theme.

The FREE event is sponsored by Capstone and is in partnership with local organizations to promote literacy and celebrate reading. The Reading Festival includes free Capstone books, activity/craft stations for Pre-K through 3rd-graders, healthy snacks by Mankato Clinic and literacy information for parents.

    All children welcome.

Organizations hosting activities include: Capstone, Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota, Families First, Family Voices, Greater Mankato Diversity Council, Mankato Family YMCA, MAPS Early Learning, Minnesota Reading Corps, MVAC, YWCA and others.

Last year, more than 600 people attended United Way’s Reading Festival.

The Reading Festival is an initiative of United Way’s Books for Kids program: Books for Kids is a Greater Mankato Area United Way program that is designed to instill the joy and benefits of reading in children by providing free books and developmental resources. Last year, Books for Kids distributed more than 28,000 quality books to children in Greater Mankato Area United Way’s service area of Blue Earth, Le Sueur, Nicollet and Waseca counties.
