SAINT PETER, MINN. – Local performers Laura Schultz and Colin Scharf will showcase fellow musician Ian Hillmer on the launch of the new series “Songshare: An Evening of Songs and Their Stories with Local Songwriters,” on Thursday, September 19, at the Arts Center of Saint Peter.

“We have a strong local music scene, but few venues that allow close listening and appreciation of the stories behind new songs,” says Schultz, who, together with Scharf, previously hosted house concerts under the seriesname “The Gold Mine.”

“Our house concert audience basically outgrew our house, and the Arts Center’s gallery is the perfect next venue. Still intimate, but with plenty of seating,” says Scharf. “We’re excited to have Ian as our first guest. Nate LaBoutillier is on the second show, Thursday, November 21, and we’ll be reaching out to others as guests on Thursday, January 16.”

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for cash refreshments by Patrick’s on Third and Morgan Creek Vineyards, viewing of the Arts Center’s current exhibition and new work in the gallery shop. Music begins at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $10, no advance sales.

Since 1979, the Arts Center of Saint Peter has hosted performances, classes, and exhibits showcasing regional and national artists. The Arts Center’s galleries are free, wheelchair-accessible, and open to the public every Wednesday through Friday 1-6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday 1-5 p.m.
