SAINT PETER – The community is invited to explore clay for the first time or refine their pottery skills at twice-monthly open clay studios beginning Sunday, April 23, 3:00-5:00 p.m., and continuing every second and fourth Sunday of the month at the Arts Center of Saint Peter.
Facilitated by clay studio manager Alvaro A.J. Aburto, open clay studios will be conducted in Spanish and English. Aburto is a former Nicaraguan Program Director of the International NGO Potters for Peace (Ceramistas por la Paz), a role that included leading cultural and artistic exchanges with local communities of artisans throughout the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua.
“My favorite aspect of pottery is that whether it is rustic or refined, made out of fancy tools or salvaged materials, people and cultures can come together to enjoy a meal with their favorite pot or appreciate a work of art as they speak the common language of clay,” said Aburto, who has been active at the Arts Center since 2018.
