YMCA Opens Search for the Next Chief Executive Officer

MANKATO – The Board of Directors of the Mankato Family YMCA has commenced its search for a new Chief Executive Officer after the current Executive Director, John Kind, announced his retirement for mid-July. Information collected from current staff, board members and some community leaders has helped create the job description and position direction.

The Board of Directors will be looking for candidates with strong experience in developing and implementing a strategic plan, improving operating performance, building and leading a strong staff team and the ability to position the Y as a vital partner for community change.

“John is leaving behind some very large shoes to fill,” says Matt DuRose, YMCA Board of Directors President, “but the board is confident that this process will bring extremely qualified candidates to us.”

While the local Y’s board will ultimately select the next leader, the national YMCA organization and state alliance are also involved to help guide the search and manage the transition process. A proposed timeline suggests that a new CEO would be named by mid-June. “There is no doubt in my mind that we will find the best candidate possible to serve the organization and the greater Mankato community,” says DuRose.

The new CEO will be joining a financially strong and mission-driven organization in a major regional center that has earned several livabillity awards.
