ProMusica Minnesota is thrilled to announce the return to Chapel of the Christ at Martin Luther College in New Ulm to kick off the 2021-22 season with Love Sweet on September 26, 2021 at 3pm. The concert will feature two prominent musicians from the Minnesota Orchestra: First Associate Concertmaster Violinist Susie Park and Principal Cello Tony Ross. The two will join Artistic Director and pianist Bethel Balge to perform Piano Trio in A Major, XV: 18 by Joseph Haydn and Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major, Op. 8 by Johannes Brahms. In addition, local soprano Heather Hjelle will join Balge to perform Love Sweet (Five Poems by Amy Lowell) by Pulitzer and Grammy Award winning contemporary composer Jennifer Higdon. Program notes author Joel Fredrich remarks of Higdon: “For all her interest in exploring the freedom of modern music, she knows how to engage and please her listeners.”

In addition to the concert on Sunday, the artists will be available for a panel conversation on Saturday, September 25 at 10am to discuss their backgrounds, musical journeys, and lives as prominent professional performers. The conversation will also take place at Chapel of the Christ at Martin Luther College and will be free and open to the public.

Tickets are $20 for individuals and $5 for students and youth. Season and family passes are also available which include concerts Trumpet Flourish on February 6, 2022 featuring Minnesota Orchestra’s Principal Trumpet Manny Laureano and Cello Treasures on March 27, 2022 featuring ProArte Quartet’s cellist Parry Karp. Advance reservations are preferred but remaining tickets will be available for purchase before the concert.

This festival is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council, and the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
