    July 24th, 2019

SAINT PETER, MINN. – More than fifty paintings and drawings, including a series of large pieces inspired by Mankato Ballet, comprise “Art Works Through Five Decades: A Retrospective by Peggy Draheim” on display August 2-24 at the Arts Center of Saint Peter.

“My technique is centered in the joy of active color and fluid brushstroke,” says Draheim, a retired art educator who holds a undergraduate and graduate degrees in art from Minnesota State University, Mankato. “I want the color to dance across the canvas, and loose brushstrokes to energize the painting. It’s the essence of the subject that I wish to capture…I give information without giving detail.”

Draheim’s work has been shown throughout the region in group and solo exhibitions since she began painting in 1978. In addition to Mankato Ballet, subjects of her paintings and drawings include Peruvian horses, family heirloom photos and drawings, This is the first retrospective of her work.

The public is invited to the opening reception on Saturday, August 3, 3:00-5:00 p.m. with remarks by the artist at 3:30 p.m.

    The Arts Center’s galleries are free, wheelchair-accessible. Summer gallery hours are Wednesday though Friday 1-5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday 1-5 p.m.
