Mankato – Award-winning and best-selling cookbook author Beth Dooley will be the keynote speaker at the 9th edition of the Deep Valley Book Festival, held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Country Inn and Suites conference center, 1900 Premier Drive, Mankato. She will present “A Writer in the Kitchen: The Art and Craft of Cookbooks” at 3:30 pm.
The festival is free and open to the public. Attendees can mingle with more than 60 authors and publishers, with all genres of writing represented.
Dooley has covered the local food scene in the Northern Heartland for thirty years: she writes for the Taste section of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune and appears regularly on KARE 11 television and Minnesota Public Radio. She is author of The Perennial Kitchen among many other books.
In conjunction with Dooley’s appearance, festival organizers are hosting an apple dessert recipe contest. Ten entries will be randomly selected to be judged by Dooley. The top three recipes will win prizes. Deadline is August 31, and contest rules are available at https://www.deepvalleybookfestival.com/apple-recipe-contest.
