Modern Love: The Essay Challenge
October 21 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until November 4th, 2021
The New York Times column Modern Love is a long-standing literary tradition in our popular culture. In this class, we will read a handful of essays, deconstruct them to see what makes them compelling, and then write out our own Modern Love stories.
Participants will work within the length restrictions required by the Times as they write an essay in the spirit of the column. We will share drafts in each class and help each other generate fresh ideas and revise them into tight essays worthy of submission. Oh, yes. We WILL submit them to the New York Times! Who knows if YOUR Modern Love story will make it to print.
Whether you end up with an amazing publication credit or a written rejection, you will be in the game and living the writing life.
All levels, 16+. (Min: 4. Max: 8). Thursdays 6-7:30 p.m., Oct. 21, 28, Nov. 4. The class will take place at the Arts Center, and participants may attend in person or via Zoom.
