Mankato — The Mankato Symphony is pleased to announce a new 5-yr contract with Ernesto Estigarribia Mussi, securing his position as Music Director and Conductor of the MSO through 2030. Estigarribia Mussi was first hired in July of 2022 after a nation-wide search and subsequent auditions. A native of Paraguay, he is highly regarded for his versatility and effervescent style on and off the podium. Hailed for his “expert direction” by Fanfare magazine, he also serves as Music Director of the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra and is the Director of Orchestral Studies at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
Through his creative programming and expert leadership, he has brought the MSO to new heights over the past three years. In a recent survey, an MSO musician stated, “Ernesto is a great rehearsal leader, wonderfully musical, able to suggest practical things to help us sound better and add nuance to our playing. He knows when to push on something to fix it, and when to move on. He’s positive and fun, but serious when it counts.”
The MSO’s upcoming 2025/26 season marks 75 years for the orchestra. Estigarribia Mussi is working with Executive Director Bethel Balge and Director of Operations Benji Inniger to develop an exciting season. Estigarribia Mussi states, “I am deeply honored to continue my journey with the Mankato Symphony Orchestra as we approach this remarkable 75th anniversary season. Over the past three years, I have witnessed the extraordinary dedication and passion of our musicians, staff, and community. Together, we have built something truly special-a vibrant orchestra that celebrates both tradition and innovation. We have expanded our geographic and audience reach by presenting concerts in Fairmont, Mapleton, and New Ulm. I look forward to continuing bringing extraordinary musical experiences for all in Southern Minnesota.”
The new season will be unveiled in the next few weeks with tickets available soon after.
